Title: Было или не было: как в Никарагуа глухие дети изобрели новый язык жестов

Description: В 1986 году американская лингвистка Джуди Кегл открыла в Никарагуа жестовый язык, до того момента неизвестный ученым. Изучая его закономерности, Кегл предположила, что наблюдает этот язык на ранней стадии его развития. Причем общались на нем преимущественно никарагуанские школьники, не знавшие ни одного другого языка. Для ученой это стало аргументом в пользу теории о «биологической грамматике», согласно которой в наш мозг встроена способность распознавать языковые закономерности. Впоследствии открытие Кегл стало лингвистической сенсацией: о нем написала авторитетная газета The New York Times, никарагуанский жестовый стали изучать другие ученые, а популяризатор науки Стивен Пинкер назвал этот случай «абсолютно уникальным» примером возникновения языка «из воздуха».
